Welcome to Sophomore Summit English!
Books are my passion! I love reading and collecting old books. I try very hard to make learning fun but rigorous! My other passions in life are my husband of 26 years, Shawn; my family, Kristen (23), Kelly (21), & Jordan (19); music and worship; my four grand-puppies; Boise State and Seattle football; and photography. I have also become obsessed with my new FitBit and try walking 20,000 steps a day! In my spare time, I have also thought about starting a wedding decorating business! This year my son is getting marries to his high school sweetheart and one of my former students, Jaden. I am currently working on a Masters degree through the College of Idaho; that makes me a Bronco and a Yote!
The course content focuses on reading, writing, listening, speaking, and observing. Students will read literary and informational materials, write in various formats, orally present information, research topics, and critique work. This year we will be focusing a lot of time and effort on rhetoric and analzing or "close reading" various texts and speeches. Students who master the course content will be prepared for the next level English requirement and further study in the real world.
This is my sixth year teaching at Columbia High School. For the 2018-2019 school year, I am teaching Summit English and Summit Honors for 10th grade. I am also very lucky to teach with two fabulous co-teachers, Mrs. Heins and Mrs. Chamberlin!
I attended Boise State University and earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Teaching. Before coming to the Nampa School District in 2013, I taught courses at Nampa Classical Charter School, Sage Valley Middle School in the Vallivue District, and Greenleaf Academy, but I am very happy to call Columbia High School my home!
